Technology is getting more and more apt at tracking our moves and anticipating our choices. Being watched all the time can make us feel anxious. However, television and social media normalize the act of watching and of being watched. Surveillance as a disciplinary mechanism is a major contributor to my thought process. Furthermore, personal background has given me an unique perception as I have been living in the shadow of a so called “Ministry of Truth”.
The elements of the installation; objects, light, video and the viewer, react to each other’s sound and movement. My ambition is to turn a condition of pure surveillance into an unpredictable connective system in order to create a complex feeling between discomfort and enjoyment.
I am aiming to challenge the traditionally passive role of the observer and to melt the boundaries between the viewer, the work and the context, and to comment on the anthropocentric notion in order to create a dialogue between different components.
